Lunch time Sketch

A quick sketch from a photo during lunch. i was using watercolor crayons and ran out of time. That's why only part of this had been wet. I kind of like it though. Photo info on the bottom of the sketch.

02.06.09 Spot Coffee

This past Friday was "First Friday" http://www.firstfridayrochester.org/ . So I went to Spot Coffee to meet Rachel http://balduffington.blogdrive.com/ . She had a booth there where her awesome paper dolls where displayed and sold.

This is this some odd possible shrimp like light on the wall at Boulder Coffee. It's a bit over worked but it was fun. There's also a giant sacred heart light on another wall that I will try next time. I think i may give this another go as well...see what comes of it.

These are the last few days of sketches

The sketch above is from the all day conference i was in on Friday. Some of the items were things i saw in the presentation, others from what was around the room.

I went to this great cafe, bar, eatery called Lovin' Cup (http://www.lovincup.com/ )on Friday night to see Teagan and the Tweeds. The Katie Wright Band opened for Teagan and was great. These are a few sketches from the show (above)

The bottom is from this afternoon. Rach and I went to an awesome lecture by Creighton Michael at the museum. It was so interesting and inspiring. Makes you think about what making a mark is or could be.

01.20.09-somthing new

I'm a bit tired tonight but was in the mood to sketch. So, this is a quick one looking out my living room window. I know great view...trash bins :)
i randomly bound some brown paper in to my new sketch book. hoping to try news things and not plan for it. So I opened the book and there it was. Eventually I'll get to the pages where I put washes of color. it will be interesting to see what o do with those.

New sketchbook

This is my new sketchbook. I finish my last one yesterday and hope to start this one tomorrow. Trying a new paper again. Canson 80LB CP, I was looking for something light with just a bit of tooth. We'll see how this one works.

With ten minutes left of lunch I sit at my desk , crack open my copy of "the illustrated life" which I have been doing during lunch the last week, when I realize that I could put the book down and get a VERY quick sketch in.
Sometimes I get so caught up in being inspired by others work that I lose the time to actually sketch. So I figure I'll leave the reading for when it's dark and use the daylight hours (as short as they are right now) to sketch!
With all that said, here is a quick sketch looking out of the conference room window.

I've been wanting to try working on colored paper with white pencil. I remembered there was this old sketch book in the cupboard and decided to rip a few sheets out. So here she is with her grey hair. :) If all goes well I may bind some of this into the new sketch book.

I thought i'd try sketch from the airport in a different style. So many times i've wondered what a drawing might look like done differently.So last night i gave it a whirl.

Rachel and I go together again to sketch tonight. This was the last of the 4 pages I filled. I started to sketch her head then she changed positions so the top of her head it whats there, ill proportioned and all :)

Lunch

It's cold out and it's snowing so i'm walking the building looking for places to sketch. Landed myself in the conference room above visitor/inter-company parking. Looked down and started sketching...

i think this is the first time she's been sketched in my new book which I've alreadyt finished half of. One day I'll catch her sleeping with her head facing me :)

A first

i think this may be a first for me....drawing a persons face that is. I drew him from the tv last night. Luckily he stayed seated the whole time. I used a grey watercolor pencil so it didnt scan very well. I'd love to be able to draw peoples face but they always seem so intimidating. I think I may etry drawing from magazines and photos to gain some confidence.

I did not give myself nearly enough time to sketch the bag of Halloween candy I brought to work. Plus i think my co-workes could smell the candy three cubes down. Two minute after I dumped the bag, they cam running.
